Gerardo qualified as a Solicitor in the UK in 1988 and later requalified as a Spanish lawyer (Abogado), practicing law as an Abogado in Spain for over two decades. He was instrumental in the formation of anti-planning abuse associations such as AUAN (Abusos Urbanísticos Almanzora No), alongside Maura Hillen OBE.

These include changes to both national laws, such as the Spanish Criminal Code and Administrative Procedure Law, and regional laws like the Andalucian Territorial Planning Law (LISTA). These reforms were designed to provide greater security for foreign property buyers in Spain.
